Manila International Book Fair 2006: Aug. 30 - Sept. 3
Filed under: Lit

It’s not too late to catch it. Ongoing from last Wednesday, Aug. 30 up to Sunday, Sept. 3. Publishers and booksellers in all their “buy me, buy me, buy us!” finery at the World Trade Center Manila, Sen. Gil Puyat (Buendia), and Roxas Boulevard. You can get more details from the fair’s website. Their List of Exhibitors is particularly useful. Have fun.

BABALA SA TUKO
Noon nabosesan ka na namin.
Ngayon narito ka na naman para magsinungaling.
Binulgar ng Garci Tape ang iyong krimen –
Batas ng Diyos, batas ng tao dadapurakin,
Taong-gobyerno gagamitin,
Pondo ng bayan lulustayin,
Boto ni FPJ dadambungin,
Basta pagka-Pangulo tuloy-tuloy maangkin.
Dahil nabulgar na, ikaw mismo ang umamin,
Sa TV, nag-astang biktima, nagsori ang salarin.
Ay! pabalat-bungang paumanhin,
Binola-bolang pagsisinungaling,
Panis na pisbol kung baga ang hain
Sa bayang akala mo’y madaling linlangin.
Hanggang ngayon pinekeng totoo,

Just started on it, picked it up off the “old unread stuff” shelf (read: the pathetic beatup old shelf in the room with a bodega-ish ambience), cleaned it up a bit, flipped through the blurb, and thought “Hah this thing’s great. Why didn’t I finish it before? Oh. Right. School. And stuffs.” Brought it to my room and started with it. Again.

“… The regressive movement of the critical investigation has demonstrated the intelligibility of practical structures and the dialectical relation which interconnects the various forms of active multiplicities. But, on the one hand, we are still at the level of synchronic totalisation and we have not yet considered the diachronic depth of practical temporalisation; and on the other hand, the regressive movement has ended with a question: that is to say, it has to be completed by a synthetic progression whose aim will be to rise up to the double synchronic and diachronic movement by which History constantly totalises itself…”

If you can’t stand the soulless, pretentious, fastfood-like aura of the mainstream trashbins masquerading as “Book Stores,” or just find the prices there ridiculous, you might be interested in this.
I stumbled on an Inquirer article listing a few places to look for good secondhand finds. Some of those listed I’m already aware of, others were, well, revelations.
